Back from the European Corporate Blogging Summit

eurostar.gif25/09/06 - I am on the Eurostar, waiting for the train to take me back to Brussels from London where I spoke at the the European Corporate Blogging Summit about "the pros and cons of employee blogging". This was one of the first conferences where the word "control" wasn't mentioned every 10 minutes. Maybe because the public didn't consist a 100% of PR people... Although some where there and lets face it, I am one of them.

As with most conferences (check out the agenda) the best talks happen during coffee, lunch and - in my case - cigarette breaks and it was true this time again. I sat at lunch with several people & enjoyed the talk I had with Alison Watterson, HP's Editor in chief and new media strategist. IBM's and HP's new media strategy are applied differently but both company's blogging origins originate from the same source... our software people.

During cigarette break I met JP Rangaswami from Dresdner Kleinwort and Jim Morrison, the CEO of Blogtronix. I definitely would love to interview both of them for one of my podcasts. We spoke about types of blogging platforms and how "new media" do not really change/influence the issue of information "getting out there"...

matt_o.jpgAfter lunch I finally met up with Matt O'Neill with whom I have been calling en emailing for more than 6 months now. We "met" through our blogs but this was the first time we could shake hands and sit down and chat. It was a pleasure and next time I am in London I'll make sure I can stay longer so that we can work even more on our joint podcasting project (probably more about that soon). We did manage to do some brainstorming in the 45 minutes we had and hope you'll enjoy the outcome in the next couple of months.

Conference London 002.jpgThese 1 day trips from Brussels to London and back are always too short and very tiring... If I want to make it at home the same day I do have to leave from any kind of conference around 18H00 and most of the time even earlier. Today this is the reason why I missed the presentation of Harri Lakkala, Internet Innovator of Nokia. He was going to talk about building a business blogging community and I would have loved to hear that one. If you look at how Nokia uses new media to create consumer communities around their products then I am certain that Harri's presentation would have interested me very much.

Next conference (Marketing conference in Copenhagen) I'll definitely prepare better in the way that I'll try to do some on the spot interviews and at least take some better pictures than the one in this post. Promised...

[I'll post this tomorrow morning - it'll be 23H00 when I get home and I am too tired...]
