A blog, a donkey and Fawlty Towers = viral marketing.

fawltytowers.jpgAlthough I am not "from Barcelona" I singed up today to receive a virtual donkey called Basil as a guest at my place here in Bellingen + the Fawlty Towers DVD box for one week. What am I talking about ?

Benjamin Yoskovitz, an entrepreneur and blogger had this crazy idea of sending the DVD collection of Fawlty Towers around the world and include a virtual donkey. People like me will receive the DVDs on loan for one week, add a postcard and a little gift and then send it along to someone else on the list.

The adventures of Basil the donkey are blogged on Where is basil.com by Ben and guest bloggers thus creating funny content including mashed up pictures with the donkey on exotic locations. At the same time though this creates viral traffic to the blog and to the blogs of the people who are having Basil as a guest.

It works well I think; you have lots of fans of Fawlty Towers, people like to receive something on loan that they can enjoy for a week and the linklove is working. Plus, it is fun to send off the package again with a postcard and a little trinket to a total stranger.

I loved Fawlty Towers when it was on here in Belgium and will definitely enjoy seeing the series again. And yes I do have my favorite one... (don't mention the...)

Hello Philippe,

Thanks for being a part of the community. Basil will love Belgium I'm sure, and I can only imagine the adventures you'll have.

Thanks for the link and best of luck to you.

If you don't PEE YOUR PANTS watching the episode of Fawlty Towers with the Germans, you're not human. It's as simple as that.

Serge ... join the list!
