Sound scepticism about "conversations" in the Blogosphere ?

Philip Young, over at Mediations was lucky to be able to attend the Euroblog 2006 conference in Germany last week. He was kind enough to collect the thoughts of Prof Betteke van Ruler, Professor of Communication and Organization at the Amsterdam School of Communications Research.

Here are her "provocative" thoughts on the blogosphere, in bullets:

  • blogs are more about one person's thoughts than conversations
  • real conversations is not equal to comments/one liners
  • where's the social interaction ?
  • the need to study the consequences of blogging
  • where's the community building aspect ?
  • hidden agenda of some bloggers and impact on society/democracy

The full post over at Philip Young's blog is certainly worth a good read and shows that a lot of questions need to be answered on the topic of blogging.

Personally, I think these questions show a good amount of realism and deserve more "conversations" about them.
