An open letter to student reporters

Anthony Moor, Editor of the Orlando Sentinel writes an open letter to student reporters entitled "Go to the web, young journalist!
In this excellent article he states that this is the best time to get into web journalism for new reporters leaving school and that there are no veterans in this space, so they could be the first generation.
Anthony also lists the skills he's looking for (he's hiring):
  • Journalism skills, news judgment, inverted-pyramid writing style etc...
  • Internet literacy, basic HTML, experience with podcasting, finding news on the web and the use of RSS.
  • Multimedia, think image, text and sound on the web.
  • Blogging experience.
He also gives some good examples of "new media" and lists Viewmagazine, Chicago Crime and Barista.
So I know there are at least 3 PR students reading my blog on a regular basis...
My message to them: this is what is expected of your future colleagues in the media.... get with the program and be the first new PRO generation that "get's it".
