Incredible LinkedIn Success Story.
Monday, December 26, 2005 at 10:47 A couple of weeks ago (maybe a month) I became member of a group in LinkedIn - a social networking tool - called the LinkedInBlogger Group. As you can guess members are all bloggers and users of LinkedIn.
Although I am still more of a "reader" of group messages than a poster I do see benefits of being member of such a group; you get to network of course but you also see what people from all over the world are doing with a blog. Some really have very creative business models and others are just blogging for fun... all want to "connect".
Today the group received a message from LinkedIn to see if "anyone can top this kind of LinkedIn success story"...
In short: a LinkedIn user based in the US connected with the United Airlines General Manager based in France and managed to get about 20 of his friends "rebooked" on the original flight which was over booked. Plus; they all received a free train ticket to Paris for their return home and drank champagne of the flight. You can read the full story here.
This is an incredibly strong success story... On the other hand I am asking myself if this is something the GM of United really would want to do again in the future... Now that everyone knows he's on LinkedIn + his efforts as described above, he could very well become the most influential "customer service center" in the company.
Oh but then again... isn't this exactly what a GM should be doing: everything for the client ? Has anyone else experienced such a "networking power" through LinkedIn ?
